PARADOR DE LERMA
PARADOR DE LERMA Burgos · Hospitality Interior Design · Concept Proposal — Phase 2
Context Paradores de Turismo is a state-owned Spanish hotel chain operating in historic buildings — castles, monasteries, and palaces — across the country. Projects are awarded through public tender. Denys & von Arend had previously delivered Phase 1 of the Parador de Lerma renovation; this proposal was developed to continue and expand that vision into the remaining spaces.
The concept — La vida del Duque de Lerma —The Duke of Lerma built one of the most powerful political careers in 17th-century Spain — and left behind a palace, a town, and a legacy woven into every stone of this building. The concept doesn't reimagine that history. It continues it.
Phase 2 picks up the thread established in Phase 1 and extends it through the remaining spaces — deepening the chromatic journey that unfolds as guests move from the lower to the upper floors, transitioning from cooler, more austere tones to a warm, enveloping atmosphere that immerses visitors in the Duke's world.
A carefully curated selection of furniture and decorative pieces creates intimate corners full of character. Rich colours and contrasts in upholstery and rugs pay tribute to the historic dye and textile factory the Duke himself commissioned. Works from Paradores' own art collection are woven throughout, lending solemnity and historical context to every space.
The ambition is singular: that every guest feels, for a moment, that they are staying in a Ducal Palace.
This project was developed as a concept proposal and was not executed.
